摘要：Increasing concern is shown by governments in the use of land for urbanpurposes . The collection of land use information and the monitoring ofchanges is difficult but essenti3l .This research is concerned with the use of aerial photographs for therecording and measurement of changes in urban land use . Tests are carriedout to assess the measurement characteristics of line grids and of dotgrids on maps and on aerial photographs . Experimental evidence indicatesthat the optimum system for the measurement of urban land use involves theuse of orthogonal dot grid overlays to the aerial photographs .A methodology is developed whereby computer programmes enable comprehensiveland use information to be obtained from simple manual inputs takendirectly from the photography .
