摘要：The Department of Environment (DOE) in the UK is concernedwith monitoring urban development. DOE and the HarwellLaboratory have investigated the use of the data from theLandsat satellites for this task. Detailed comparisonshave been carried out for four test sites between theLandsat results and results obtained from aerialphotography. This work has shown that Landsat can be usedto monitor new growth but not to redetermine existingurban areas . The coincidence between the ground truthand the Landsat estimates of new growth is over 80 percent, but there are some additional errors from commission.
