摘要:Steel tubular compression members are widely used in different steel structures and can becorroded by the different environmental circumstances which may lead to reduction in its remaining strength capacity.The present study is focused on assessing the remaining strength of the tubular compression member which is subjectedto the combination of uniform and pitting corrosion. A three hollow steel tubular sections are fabricated and corrodedby galvanostatic method. The tensile tests were carried out for the coupons extracted from the parent specimens whichare corroded in various levels of corrosion and the obtained stress strain characteristics are incorporated in thenumerical model.The combination of uniform and pitting corrosion is simulated in center portion of the tubularmember by varying percentage of 10-40%. The result shows that a drastic reduction in remaining strength capacity ofthe tubular compression members with increase in rate of combined corrosion, i.e. uniform and pitting corrosiontogether.
