摘要:The unique characteristics of composites and distinct advantages over monolithic metals has madecomposite materials popular in many engineering applications such as automotive (piston, cylinder liners, bearings),aerospace and structural components resulting in low material wastage and high savings. MMC’s, in particularaluminium matrix composite have gained more popularity due to low cost, low density, high strength to wait ratio,high thermal conductivity and high wear resistance. This paper presents a review on the effects of reinforcements onthe mechanical and tribological properties of a composite fabricated by various methods such as powder metallurgy,stir casting, mechanical alloying, FSP, etc containing single or multiple reinforcements. Reinforcements are added toget desired mechanical and tribological properties. The effects of different reinforcements on mechanical andtribological properties are studied in this paper.
