摘要:This paper presents in-depth and comprehensive approach for optimizing the machining parameters onDrilling of EN24 and Mild Steel using Taguchi method and Desirability Function Analysis (DFA).In various industrialapplications, EN24 and Mild Steel are used for manufacturing of components such as gears, shafts, studs and bolts. Inother hand, drilling is one of the most important metal-cutting operations, comprising approximately 33% of all metalcuttingoperations among all traditional machining processes. Among the cutting conditions which influence theDrilling process, coolant is an important factor largely affects the machining process. The modern industries arelooking for a cooling system to provide dry or near dry, clean, neat and pollution free machining. The present work iscarried out in three phases; in the first phase the Orthogonal Array L32 Taguchi mixed level design is prepared usingMinitab software by considering various drilling parameters such as speed, feed, tool materials, work material andCoolant Type. In the second phase, drilling operation is performed on EN 24 and Mild Steel materials as per Taguchidesign and the responses such as Thrust force, Torque, Temperature, Hole surface roughness and material removal rate(MRR) are obtained. In the third phase the experimental response data are analysed using Taguchi technique andDesirability Function Analysis. Using Taguchi technique optimum controllable parameter combinations are identifiedfor each response. In view of the fact, that traditional Taguchi method cannot solve a multi-objective optimizationproblem; to overcome this limitation Desirability Function Analysis has been coupled with Taguchi method.Desirability function analysis (DFA) had been most widely used in industries to optimize the multi response in drillingoperation and Drilling responses are analysed using this technique and optimum controllable parameter combination isidentified and the significant contribution of parameters can be determined by analysis of variance (ANOVA). Finallyoptimal result was verified through confirmatory experiment and it is to be satisfactory.
