  • 摘要:The binding of polyphenols (gallic acid and quercetin) with [Ru(phen)3]2+ (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)complex in aqueous medium at pH 12.5 has been studied by absorption spectral techniques. The complex shows aligand centred (LC) absorption peak at 262 nm and a metal to ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption peak at 445nm in aqueous medium. The [Ru(phen)3]2+ complex shows an emission maximum at 593 nm. The binding constant (Kb)for this reaction is determined from the Benesi-Hildebrand plot using absorption intensity data. The Kb of gallic acidwith [Ru(phen)3]2+ complex at 262 and 445 nm is 3.40 x 103 and 1.05 x 102 M-1 whereas for quercetin is 1.50 x 104 and4.73 x 103 M-1 respectively. Structural effect seems to play a vital role on the binding of the gallic acid and quercetinwith the complex.
