  • 摘要:The establishment of Primary HealthCentres in India started as early as in 1952, and overthe last six decades it has undergone several changesto meet the increasing demand for health careservices. Until the eighth Five Year Plan, theemphasis was on the expansion of the health careestablishment. However, during the eighth andsubsequent plans the emphasis was mainly onconsolidation of existing health infrastructure ratherthan on expansion. The trust has been on qualitativeimprovement in the health services throughstrengthening of physical facilities like provision ofessential equipment, and consumables, constructionof buildings and staff quarters, of medical andparamedical staff and in-service training of staff.The location of the primary health center withrespect to the various villages in its functional area isan important aspect. Its suitability in this contextdepends upon the transport infrastructure in theregion. In this paper a study is conducted of all theprimary health centers of Dhule taluka of Dhuledistrict of Maharashtra state of India. The weightedmean distance is proposed as an index. Theparameter “weighted mean distance indices” arecompared with the “composite indices” for thedifferent primary health centers, which are based ondifferent technical and social dimensions. Thisparameter may be used for redistribution of villagesamong the primary health centers or introduction ofnew primary health centers to support the increasingpopulation in villages.
