摘要:Groundwater is the largest source of usable, fresh water in the world. Groundwater is often drawn foragricultural, municipal and industrial use by constructing and operating extraction wells. Groundwater is vulnerable tocontamination due to many human and environmental activities. Nanotechnology has wide application in environmentand has the potential to offer several benefits that are not offered by other conventional technologies. Where carbonnanotube is key component of nanotechnology, hence an attempt is being made in the present study to treat pollutedgroundwater using carbon nanotubes. In this work, carbon nanotubes were synthesized using open arc dischargemethod and groundwater containing objectionable parameters such as iron, nitrate, fluoride, phosphate and totaldissolved solids was filtered using carbon nanotubes as filter media. The filtration was carried out by CNTs and naturalsand with three different packing methods; deposited, layered and mixed. The work concluded that a maximumremoval efficiency of 87.5% for iron, 88.93% for nitrate, 80% for fluoride, 84.14% for phosphate and 73.7% for totaldissolved solids was obtained at a depth of 8cm in deposited CNTs packing method compared to other methods.
