摘要：This paper represents a partial outcome of a wider study focus on creation of innovative method formeasurement of citizens´ security.Purpose – In the actual socioeconomic conditions, there is a need not only to maintain but also to enhancea various kind of services provided for fulfilment of citizens´ needs. Security has a special position among suchservices. In relation to the security issue we found it as necessary when assessing actual tools and politics interms of territorial units to characterize and evaluate the existing methods measuring security of citizens. Such aprocedure we consider inspiring in respect to the future design of our own methodology for measurement ofcitizens´ security.Design/methodology/approach –The article is focused on identification, analysis, comparement andevaluation of chosen methods for measurement of citizens´ security. The most of the existing methods aresimilar, a lot of them are focused on various areas among which security is only a little part, hardly possible to besurveyed individually. However, there exist also another method partially suitable for our purpose. Therefore,we found it as essential to analyse these methods according to various identified criterions. After applying ofcritical analysis and assessment of the identified methods we can evaluate which part of them are applicable forthe Slovak republic territorial units’ conditions. Such an approach can help us in the approach of development ofnew method. The article is using various scientific methods like analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction andcomparison and critical analysis.Findings – The article focuses on partial outcomes of a scientific research study “Possibilities of citizens´security measurement” and is unique with its results – assessment of existing tools for measuring of security ofcitizens. The case study shows special findings related with the question if these methods are applicable in theenvironment of Slovak Republic territorial units and composes an evaluation of these methods according togiven criterions.Research limitations/implications – The list of survived methods is not exhaustive, but reflects ourperception of the issue, such as it was chronologically developed in process of creation a wider study andstudying the theoretical background. The order of the used methods is chosen deliberately referring to theprocess from the general to the particular, from the overall security of mankind to the security of citizens in aterritorial unit.Practical implications/OriginalityAs a practical implication of the results given in this article we can identify a focused knew knowledgeabout each of the characterized methods. This quite original because there has not exist such kind of survey ofthe selected methods according to the special conditions of some country. Such knowledge and informationdetermined by this study could serve for improvement of rural and regional development in creation of newaims, tolls and politics.
