摘要：Purpose – The purpose of this study is to provide an overview on the significance of locally generateddevelopments, bottom-up approaches in moderating the spatial inequalities. In addition, the case studies in thepaper bring concrete examples for local developments, focusing on the introduction of local currencies.Design/methodology/approach – The paper includes the synthesis of literature focusing on localeconomic development (LED) as some case studies in Hungary about the conclusions of local currencies.Findings –The paper emphasizes the potentials in the introduction of local currencies and the importanceof endogenous resources because for most of the rural areas, such strategies are the only way out from theunderdeveloped status. However, the case studies show that a bottom-up good idea may lead to success andfailure as well, so the idea itself is not enough for the success.Research limitations/implications – The limitation of such local researches is that there are no complexindicators or methods that would be able to summarize the resources available locally. It makes the elaborationof endogenous resource-based strategies more difficult.Practical implications – The lessons learned from the case studies might be applied in other regions ofthe CEE region where the cooperation should be strengthened among the local population, localfarmers/businesses and the local municipality or where the area already has its own clear identity which servesas a good basis for the strong community spirit.Originality/Value – The value of the study is the combination of the theoretical approach and thepractical examples in the case studies
