摘要:In this paper, the importance of agricultural biotechnology in ensuring food security to millions of undernourished Nigeria through the production of genetically modified crops is discussed. The paper identified priority staples food crops that can be bioengineered by geneticists to feed the bourgeoning population of Nigeria which stands presently at 140 million. Amidst the fear of many environmentalists, NGOs and citizens about the safety of genetically modified crops and derivatives, this paper highlights the legal regime for stimulating biotechnology investments in Nigeria through the panoply of laws that seek to ensure the safety, quality and standardization of genetically modified products marketed in Nigeria.
