摘要:Schistosomiasis, one of the neglected diseases most prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa continues to plague communities with little or no access to potable water treatment. The study therefore is on the determinants of willingness to pay for improved treatment of schistosomiasis by fishermen in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling techniques was employed to draw a total of eighty fishermen from whom data were collected, with the aid of structured questionnaires, on their socioeconomic characteristics, cost and return as well as willingness to pay for treatment of the disease among others. The results shows that majority of the fish farmers were young and non-literate who loses an average of N5,000 monthly on the treatment of schistosomiasis which is about 8% of the farmer’s revenue. The inferential statistics showed that age of the respondents, household size, cost of treatment and the number of days of infection significantly influenced the willingness of the fish farmers to pay for treatment.
