摘要：Stem cells have remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types with unlimited dividing and self-renewal capacity. Stem cell-based therapies and tissue engineering are considered to be promising for treatment of many diseases including neurodegenerative diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, cancer, etc. Dental stem cells isolated from the oral niches are reported to have similar differentiation capabilities and less invasive isolation methods compared to other stem cells like bone-marrow stem cells. This review outlines the biological properties and different types of stem cells; differentiation potentials and the recent progress of stem cells used in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
