摘要：Apple production in Santa Catarina has shown higher rates of growth in the mountainous region of the State. However, investments in cold rooms for preservation of the fruit not have accompanied the evolution of production, exacerbating the shortage of storage capacity in the region. To assess the impact of storage infrastructure deficiency, the article describes the evolution of production in two poles productive (Fraiburgo and São Joaquim), storage capacity and prices paid to producers and wholesale. As a result, there has been a reduction of the apple prices during harvest months, hindering farmer’s profitability especially those not organized in cooperative arrangements. Based on this argument and evidence, this paper sustains that the organization of farmers in trade cooperatives is the key factor that facilitates the access to the infrastructure of classification and storage of apple production.
