摘要：William Faulkner’s short story “There Was a Queen” has aroused increasing attention in recent years. Three women characters, Virginia, Narcissa and Elnora, live in this unmanned house and strive to protect the reputation of Sartoris family. As the tradition defender, they stick to the old tradition and sense of morality, repress their natural humanity and live a lonely and empty life until death. Faulkner strongly condemns the inhumane morality which demolishes the natural humanity and at the same time reveals the root of these women’s tragedy with deep sympathy.
