This technology is acquired not only as a tool for the development of processes and activities in their daily tasks but also as an opportunity to build knowledge by means of collaborative learning. This article briefl y describes how topics related with taxonomy, ontology, and folksonomy contribute to the generation of new knowledge in an appropriate manner. Several elements such as ¿what are they? , ¿who uses them? ¿what benefi ts do they bring? And what opportunities they bring to users of the web. Some of the important considerations on taxonomies show how these go on to be the science that deals with the principals, methods and purpose of the classifi cation to become the technology used for an effi cient management of the information and contents. Taxonomy is the essential element in the building of knowledge within the organizations. Regarding the ontologies, we will show how based on them we are able to defi ne vocabularies that may be understood and specifi ed by computer units with enough precision to allow differentiating terms and referencing them in a precise manner, thus making the search in web easier and optimizing the users’ resources. Lastly, on folksonomies we will show that it is a manner of taking advantage of the knowledge people have in an organic and democratic manner by organizing and classifying the information that travels through the Internet based on a collaborative environment through agreements that lead to the achievement of a common goal.
