摘要：The paper provides the results of physical, chemical and microbiological analyses of water supply wells, as well as data collected with questionnaires applied in 157 households in the municipal district of São Francisco de Itabapoana, RJ. This district is located on the Norte-Fluminense coastline and, as in other regions of the country, the lack of water supply in urban and rural areas has been solved much more by drilling wells than by the adoption of management actions to reduce losses and improve existing systems. Results revealed a large number of samples outside the standard recommended for human consumption.
