摘要:The Iberian immigration in Rio de Janeiro in the period of the First Massive Immigration (1880-1930) occupied a prominent position in the main districts of the city. In the popular spaces and everyday tensions that were part of the urban scene, Portuguese and Spanish have created ethnic settlements and concentrated in certain trades and professions, forming networks of solidarity. The participation in activities deemed illegal, eminently popular character, as the Brazil’s Clandestine Lottery, demonstrates the interplay of these groups with Rio society and their integration and adaptation in the city. Through historical sources as the police processes and expulsion procedures, this study seeks to rebuild some stories of encounters and conflicts, support and repulsion, which involved the Iberian immigrants.
