摘要:In one of Steven Spielberg’s films, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) remembers that in order to cross a dangerous abyss he should look for solutions within the problems themselves and, as a result, decides to cross it even if there was no bridge whatsoever. Breathless spectators realise that he is so resolute to cross the gap that he will walk on air. However, as soon he takes his first step a bridge is made visible and concrete under his feet. This scene illustrates the main argument of this paper: the gap between language and literature can be filled either by the realisation of its illusiveness or by the construction of an imaginary bridge. I also argue that possibilities vary according to teacher’s sense of plausibility (Prabhu, 1990)1 and I suggest that a dialogic (Bakhtin, 1981)2 learning environment can enhance the development of this sense and, consequently, the learner’s involvement.
