摘要：Este artigo usa o conceito de discurso para contrastar algumas das formas pelas quais “o professor” é posicionado e construído dentro das reformas nas políticas do Reino Unido e dos Estados Unidos. Em outras palavras, como o papel e propósito do professor é articulado diferentemente e quais são as implicações destas diferentes articulações para as relações de trabalho, auto-percepção e efetividade do professor? O artigo também chama a atenção a respeito dos significados mais amplos e possíveis implicações destas tentativas de reformar e reestruturar a oferta educacional e identificar um conjunto de diferenças discursivas entre as reformas do Reino Unido e dos Estados Unidos. Além disso, o artigo explora as implicações destas reformas no trabalho dos professores, bem como as formas pelas quais os professores são vistos em cada caso. Abstract This paper uses the concept of discourse to contrast some of the ways in which 'the teacher' is positioned and constructed within recent reform policies in the UK and the USA. In other words, how is the role and purpose of the teacher articulated differently and what are the implications of these different articulations for the work relationships, self-perception and effectivity of the teacher? It also draws attention to the wider meanings and possible implications of these attempts at reforming and restructuring educational provision and identifies a set of significant discursive differences between UK and US school reforms. Further, it begins to explore the implications of these reform attempts for teacher's work, as well as some of the ways in which 'the teacher' is conceptualised differently in each case.
