摘要：This paper deals with the cases of slaves who attained their release from slavery by means of loans and contracts for letting their services. We perceived the expectation that the freed slaves would continue to work as hard as when they were captives, something, of course, far away from the freedman’s plans. We conclude that the historical experiences examined allow us the access to a whole set of representations on labor and the meaning of life in liberty.
