摘要:The aim in this study was to analyze the impact of the internalization of the thin ideal on the body image (BI) dissatisfaction in adolescent girls. The sample consisted of 273 subjects aged between 11 and 15 years. We used the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) to assess body image dissatisfaction. The subscales “Overall Internalization” and “Athletic Internalization” of the Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Questionnaire-3 (SATAQ-3) to evaluate media influence on body image. The results showed differences both in the overall internalization ( p = 0.001) and the athletic internalization ( p = 0.01) subscale according to the ratings of the BSQ. The regression model indicated statistically significant influences of the SATAQ-3 subscales on the BSQ ( p = 0.001) scores. We concluded that the internalization of the sociocultural body ideal was an important predictor of dissatisfaction with weight and physical appearance in young girls.
