摘要:With the construction of the Estreito hydroelectric plant in the Northern state of Tocantins, bordering the state of Maranhão, entire communities were forcibly removed to resettlements built by the hydroelectric enterprise. From the analysis of the narratives of women and men, this study promotes a discussion on the living conditions of these families in their daily lives and examines its (un)sustainability. There is a consensus that with the social constructions of gender, women and teenagers are the ones responsible for the water supply in the domestic space – this is what was witnessed in the surveyed settlements.
