INSTANT

 Yesterday, mathematics eluded her,
but she read with delight a history of Africa
 where they recounted facts
 about slave trade and galleons.
Today he rounded up nine guys to play baseball
and donated blood at the county clinic.
She ran around the entire track,
and he shopped for tasty mussels
 at the market.
He dreamed about Indian girls, all washing at the riverbank.
 She went to the refrigerator
and, with a nearly forbidden pleasure,
devoured the mussels he'd managed to buy
 at the market.
It is four-ten in the afternoon.
Both gaze into the same lens
 and share the same hope.
