  • 摘要:We took on the task with a five-year commitment and some specific ideas of how to incorporate some new ideas into an already excellent journal. Although not everyone may agree that every change was for the better, we have left no aspect of the journal unexamined and have incorporated changes and additions in many areas, from title and typographic design to color and contents. The addition of more interactive material in the form of "Perspectives" and "Forums" has allowed for more communication among members of the Society. The addition of the subtitle, "Studies in Christianity and Culture," signaled our intention to publish material that consciously tried to relate the general study of Christianity to its cultural context, furnishing the journal with a specific character in the field.

The four editors at Duke University who have been the stewards of Church History over the last seven years would like to thank the American Society of Church History for the opportunity of serving the Society in this special way.

We took on the task with a five-year commitment and some specific ideas of how to incorporate some new ideas into an already excellent journal.

No editors can fulfill their responsibilities, of course, without the scholarly contributions of the members of the guild who write the articles, who craft the book reviews, and who contribute their views in various other formats. But special thanks are due to the host of scholars who agree to act as referees for the hundreds of articles that are submitted over the years--they are the anonymous, unsung heroes of the enterprise, and the quality of the journal continues to be largely dependent upon their careful analysis and suggestions. In addition, we have benefited from the commitment and careful work of many graduate student assistants and copy editors who have attended to the details of correspondence and preparation of the issues.

We turn our task over to the new editors and their staff at Florida State University with confidence and anticipation of further changes and improvements.
