Foreword/avant-propos.

Armony, Victor

This is the final issue of the Journal published under my editorship. I have overseen the publication of 12 issues since 2004. This has been a fascinating and highly enriching experience, and I feel confident that we can look back with pride, as the Journal has consistently maintained its standard of academic excellence, while reflecting the strong diversity of disciplines, approaches, regions, and languages that distinguish us from other scholarly publications in the field of Latin American and Caribbean studies. It goes without saying that this is hardly the result of a single individual's work. Unfortunately, I can't thank here all those who contributed to the success of this collective endeavour. Let me acknowledge in general the support of the Association's Board of Directors and members, the Editorial Board, the University of Calgary Press, the Universite du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and of course all the authors and anonymous reviewers that contributed to make our journal a top-notch scholarly publication. I need, however, to thank individually a few remarkable people with whom I've had the honour and pleasure of working closely: David Parker, former managing editor; Amitava Chowdhury, current managing editor; Viviana Patroni, book review editor; Stephanie Rousseau, book review editor (French); and Eileen Eckert, University of Calgary Press copyeditor.

During my two terms as editor, the Journal and the Association have faced many challenges, some of them extremely difficult, but the future looks promising and new and exciting opportunities unfold now in front of us. I am very happy to pass the torch to Catherine Krull at Queen's University. I am certain that she will accomplish great things with the Journal, and I wish her a successful and rewarding tenure as Editor in Chief.
