Kurdish short story: emergence, development, and future horizons.

This article offers an overview of the emergence and the
development of Kurdish short story since the beginning of the twentieth
century. The approach is mainly based on a historical review of texts
produced by Kurdish story writers in various parts of Kurdistan, taking
into consideration the linguistic, technical, and aesthetic
characteristics of each generation of writers. Additionally, the
contents and the forms of the stories are analyzed as examples of
different literary styles and trends. The author explores the political
context and its influence in shaping Kurdish culture as a whole and
artistic prose in particular. Finally, the article explores the
influence of Western, Arabic, Persian, and Turkish literatures on the
Kurdish short story.
