摘要：El artículo pretende poner en evidencia que existe una inconsistencia histórica, un error si se quiere, al definir o asimilar la sociedad embera con los catíos. Propone que los indígenas denominados catíos son los directos descendientes de la nación hevexico, diferente cultural e históricamente de la embera; a manera de hipótesis, propone que esta denominación podría corresponder a la hispanización de la palabra con la que los embera denominan a una nación sobresaliente por ser la dueña del oro, los carauta, y que sería la misma que estuvo asentada en Buriticá y Dabeiba, sitios legendarios desde la conquista por su riqueza aurífera e identificados por los españoles como hevexico. Abstract: The article intends to show that there exists an historical inconsistency, or at least an error, in defining or equating the embera society with that of the catios. It proposes that the indigenous peoples denominated catio are the direct descendents of the hevexico nation, culturally and historically distinct from the embera. The hypothesis suggests that this designation could have resulted from the hispanization of the word the embera used to name a luminous group for being owners of the gold resources —the carauta— the same group that was based in Buriticá and Dabeiba, legendary sites from the Conquest for their gold resources and identified by the spanish as hevexico.
