摘要:The purpose of the paper is to show the importance of cultural mediation processes that make possible the current cases of resumption of "popular traditions" in urban contexts. There are taken as an examples the recreators maracatu groups in the city of São Paulo and its quest for what concerns the “tradition”. By recovering, although briefly, some aspects of the cultural history of maracatu, it is possible to realize that this practice has undergone various processes of mediation that led to the decline untill the worldwide success. What we intend to elucidate, therefore, is that this phenomenon must be understood, not as a tradition, rescued, from one moment to the next, but as a constant cultural flux, which transits occur in various directions, among the folk, the popular, massive and erudite
