The role of financial services in strengthening the financial
system of an economy has been well recognized worldwide more so in the
recent past. The financial services contribute significantly in the
today's most of the financial transactions in all the countries.
There have been number of innovations and a new vista of financial
services emerged over the past few years particularly in developing
countries. Many of these concepts are being practiced in India.
Therefore, there is an imperative need for a comprehensive Book dealing
with various policy measures and operational aspects of financial
services.
The Book by Khan provides a very comprehensive and analytical
material on existing as well emerging financial services in India. The
unique feature of the book is that it provides the detailed policy
guidelines as framed by the Regulatory authorities, regulatory
provisions and their implications and operational constraints and
procedures in detail. The mixture of theory and their practical
applicability with relevant case studies on various schemes certainly
enhances the quality and usefulness of the book. The inclusion of
taxation regulations and explaining their practical implications on
various financial transactions is another rare feature of the Book.
Various exhibits, comprehensive case studies, good number of numerical
exercises etc. make the reading more understandable and interesting. It
can be said as a practical handbook for students, industry managers and
professionals.
In fifth edition the coverage on Banking products and services and
Mutual Fund services and products is much desired addition to the
contents. .There are other contents such as stock broking, Depositories,
Custodial services and Securities lending and borrowings which have been
re captioned with desired information on these topics. Besides, there
are many other important chapters which have been updated with latest
amendments and modifications on the related areas.
Though this is the comprehensive book on financial services but to
my mind further inclusion of few numerical exercise and case studies on
the topics like Venture capital and Credit Rating in the subsequent
editions will attract more importance of the Book for the students and
professionals.
