In this edition, we have attempted to exhibit the remarkable
diversity that is included in regional studies. Topics range from the
impact of natural events through to labour and human resource issues and
statistical and demographic analysis. A mixture of Australasian and
international research has been included.
We aim always to link this journal with the wider Australian and
New Zealand Regional Science Association and with one of its other key
activities--its annual conference. On that basis, a notable paper from
the 2014 ANZRSAI conference in Christchurch has been included. This
paper by Akbar and Ors. considers flood effects on regional property
markets. While based on flooding events in central Queensland in
2010/2011, the growing frequency of such disasters make this work timely
and relevant to many coastal regional communities.
The attraction and holding of professionals in regional areas is
always challenging. Adapa's paper explores an important component
of this--the career enablers for women in accounting firms in those
regional locations.
In a not unrelated paper, Angelopoulos and Ors. test the location
decisions of 'creative workers' and consider that some
contemporary theories in this area appear less than robust in the
Australian context.
This edition also includes an internationally based paper by
Jordan, D. which investigates the location criteria for product
innovation and entrepreneurship within a Vietnamese case study.
The final paper by Wilson, T. is relevant to regional population
projections considering specifically forecasting errors over a five year
period and the implications for prediction intervals.
The upcoming 2015 ANZRSAI conference in Sydney from 1-4 December
has a theme of Global Cities and Global Regions: 'Sustainable
Futures?'. It is planned to include key papers from that important
conference in 2016 editions of the journal.
