Dear Readers:
What a wonderful array of perspectives our authors have taken on
the theme of Literature in the Australian Curriculum English in this
edition of Practically Primary. We thank author Sandy Fussell for
starting the conversation by sharing her journey of 'becoming'
a children's author. Her story is especially interesting for
teachers as she addresses her early challenges with the writing process
and then describes how she developed her writing skills. She provides
great insight for our own planning and teaching of writing, thanks
Sandy!
We have perspectives on historic literature, Shakespeare, picture
books and novels. Our authors share their insight into having children
read and respond to literature right through to the ways we can support
them as creators of literature. We thank our contributors for their
generosity in sharing their stories.
We have reviewed Denise Ryan's book, launched at the ALEA
national conference in Perth last year in Text Talk for Teachers. And
our Text Talk for Children looks a little different in this edition. To
follow the theme on children's literature, we selected a range of
new publications and had the children share their views--we hope they
provide you with some ideas for new texts.
Our next edition continues its focus on the Australian Curriculum
English, moving now to Literacy. Please consider sharing stories from
your classroom, include some photos and enjoy the satisfaction of
contributing to your professional community.
Warm wishes,
Jessica, Lisa and Gloria
