The Executive Coordinator of the UNV Program, Ms. Flavia Pansieri
has visited the Ahfad University for Women (AUW) as part of her visit to
Sudan. The visit to AUW came as part of the joint project the AUW and
UNV are implementing on combating female genital mutilation in Sudan.
Ms. Falvia expressed in her visit the keenness of the UNV program to
continue collaborating with the university in creating more volunteering
opportunities for young women in Sudan.
A team from the Population Council International have visited the
AUW in February, 2009. The team consisted of Ms. Safa El-Kogali,
Regional Director of the Population Council West Asia & North Africa
and Ms. Judith Bruce: Senior Associate, Poverty, Gender and Youth
Program, Population Council--New York. Ms. Judith Bruce also presented a
lecture on the Population Council Programs in Poverty, youth, education
and health. The meeting also focused on the ongoing and future
collaboration between the two institutions.
Dr. Elise Johanesen, the Technical officer, in the World Health
Organization (WHO), Geneva has visited the AUW in February, 2009. She
also visited the ongoing project implemented jointly between the AUW and
the WHO on changing the behavior towards FGM in West Omdurman.
The Ahfad University for Women in collaboration with Trinity
Collage Dublin, the University of Malawi, the University of Namibia,
(Human Science Research Council), the Secretariat of the African Decade
for Persons with Disabilities, Stellenbosch University, South Africa,
and SINTEF, Norway held the launching of the collaborative research
project on "Universal And Equitable Health Care For Vulnerable
Population In Resource Poor Setting in Africa" at the Ahfad
University for Women Library. The launching was attended by the
Under-Secretary of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health and a
representative of the Federal Ministry of Higher Education and other
research partners of the AUW.
The Ahfad University for Women in collaboration with the UNFPA and
UNV Program has launched the project on combating female genital
mutilation by using volunteers from the community and community
mobilization techniques in the White Nile State, Gezira Abba locality.
The project is a continuation for the pilot project implemented by the
AUW in Khartoum State.
A team from the American University Beirut'(AUB) has visited
the Ahfad University for Women (AUW) during the period of April 27 to
May 3, 2009 as part of the working agreement between the two
universities for the restructuring of the academic programs at the AUW.
The guests from the AUB have been invited to attend the graduation
ceremony of the AUW 39th batch of graduates which is held in April.
