Stones and Stories: An Introduction to Archaeology and the Bible.
Klein, Ralph W.
In twenty-one chapters, Don C. Benjamin's Stones and Stories:
An Introduction to Archaeology and the Bible (Fortress, $39) provides a
history of the field, describes its methods (including processual
archaeology, ethnoarchaeology, and post-processual archaeology),
discusses findings at specific sites (Qumran, Arad, Ekron, Gezer, and a
nautical site called Cape Gelidonya), and even surmises what its future
course will be. The language and layout are inviting to the
non-specialist and study questions are provided with each chapter. There
is also a glossary and a marvelously annotated bibliography. The
"Stories" in the title indicates that archaeological finds are
frequently related to biblical narratives.
