Land of Revelation: A Reconciling Presence in Israel.

Land of Revelation: A Reconciling Presence in Israel by Roy H. Kreider (Herald, $19.99) is a spiritual autobiography combining historical and theological reflections upon Roy and Florence Kreider's 32 years as Mennonite missionaries in Israel. For example, the chapter on the Yom Kippur war describes the war itself and Israelis' existential questions as their trust in their government erodes. Kreider's answer is trust in the atoning death of Christ and the promises of God, which is confirmed by a message from Jesus announcing that the war would provide a strong opportunity for Christian witness. Some readers will be troubled by the author's emphasis on converting Jews, and those looking for an in-depth discussion of the complex issues surrounding peace and social justice in the Middle East will be disappointed.
