摘要:This article is a film analysis that aims to examine two different discourses about the pickers’ job that are in the documentary: Waste Land by Lucy Walker (2011). The goal of this article is to reveal the structure of the discourse about the dignity of the job of the recyclable materials’ picker in contrast to the discourse of the indignity of the trash picker. At first, we discuss the nature of the object-film. From these first considerations are taken three dimensions: (i) film/language, (ii) inevitable subjectivity and (iii) film/social production. Then we discuss the aspects of pickers activity and the positive and negative semantics assigned to this job. The analysis model associates; the sociology of film, the constructionism and critical discourse analysis. We conclude that the discourse of indignity in the social context oppresses the discourse of dignity in the individual level and the discourse of dignity in the social context is not guaranteed to be in the individual level.
