摘要：This paper presents a study of biological agents in the collection of health of the Central Library of the University of Santa Maria / UFSM. Through this, we tried to emphasize the importance of conservation of documents, since it can be considered one of the functions essential to the preservation of library collections and archives. The research was based on the reality of the Central Library, that is, the environmental problems raised by the data collection made by analyzing the existence of micro-organisms in the environment and materials, as well as the humidity, ventilation and temperature. The results demonstrated the need to use resources to correct high levels of moisture in the basement of Central Library, temperature control and ventilation.
