摘要：The total number of coliform, feacal, and other pathogenic bacteria were established in the surface layen of water and sediment samples collected at stations located in the Coatzacoalcos and Tonala riven and the Ostion Lagoon in Veracruz, Mexico. The distnbution of the microorganisms found in the area studied seems to be influenced by the waste water discharges and surface drainage from nearby urban settlements. The quality of drainage water was also studied in the cities of Cosoleacaque, Minatitlan, Coatzacoalcos, Agua Dulce, Las Choapas and Nanchital, employing the MPN techniques for the quantification of coliform bacteria. The results of this investigation can be used as evidence that waste discharges from coastal settlements cause contamination.
