摘要：The ocurrence of D. pulex was detected in relation to eight physical chemical parameters of water variability of the José Antonio Alzate Dam and the economic activity generated by the exploitation of this cladoceran was analized. A three month sampling program was carried out dwing five years at 12 stations; polls were taken among fishermen in order to obtain information from official and pnvate institutions related to the exploitation of this resource. It was observed that dam is divided in two zones according to water quality. The western zone shows a higher frecuency in the ocurrence of this species and presents high population densities year after year. It was also observed that dissolved oxygen and total amounts of unattached solids have clear influence on the presence of this cladoceran. The market of D. pulex is dominated by national monopolizing that exports it pnncipally to transnational food enterprises. The lack of support from official institutions and the strong pressures which fishermen are subject to prevent the rising of productivity and the retention of the econornic surplus generated from thii activity.
