摘要:Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz belongs to the Mexican Pantheon of famous historical figures and her presence is ubiquitous in the consciousness of all Mexican citizens. For nearly forty years, the Mexican government, through its official educational system, has been responsible for promoting and establishing educational materials that reflect such historical figures in the light of its national ideology. In 1959, with the creation of the Libro de Texto Gratuito, the State began to print and distribute textbooks to be used in all the primary schools of the country, thus creating a corpus of free educational materials with which they have attempted, at least theoretically, to provide an official and uniform education to all Mexican children. Through an analysis of the Libros de Texto Gratuitos, we can learn not only about educational trends, but also about the ideological and literary profile of historical figures promoted by the Mexican government. The purpose of this paper is to trace the textual presence of Sor Juana in the educational material distributed free of charge by the Comisión Nacional de Libros de Texto Gratuitos (CONALITEG) for elementary education from 1959 to 2006 and to observe the prevailing profile that this Mexican nun has been given in the official books created by the Department of Education. Finally, the paper theorizes the evolution, concordances, and discrepancies between the presence of Sor Juana in the documents created by the CONALITEG and the creation of a Mexican national identity as presented in the Libro de Texto Gratuito.
