摘要:This paper examines the background and psychology of the open source movement and suggests ways to decrease resistance to the adoption of open source systems in libraries, which have typically favoured proprietary systems. Resistance is frequently based on deep-rooted institutional and psychological factors, which can be overcome with sensitive and purposive training and implementation strategies. While the paper is directed at libraries specifically, many of the underlying causes of resistance to open source apply to institutions generally, and the suggestions outlined could be applicable in many industries beyond libraries.
