摘要:The European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights sets out in a single text, for the first time in the European Union'shistory, the whole range of civil, political, economic and social rights of European citizens and all persons resident inthe European Union. The text of the Charter does not establish new rights, but assembles existing rights that were previouslyscattered over a range of international sources. According to the Charter's Preamble, its aim is "to strengthen theprotection of fundamental rights in the light of changes in society, social progress, scientific and technological developmentby making those rights more visible in a Charter." The rights guaranteed are divided into six chapters: dignity, freedom, equality, solidarity, citizens' rights, and justice.
