摘要:This article examines a work entitled Espejo de Chirurgia, written in 1631 by thesurgeon Antonio de Viana, born in La Laguna (Tenerife‐Islas Canarias) in 1578. Eventhough the treatise was produced in the first half of the 17th century, Viana’s medicaltraining helps explain why its characteristics are typical of Renaissance medicalknowledge. The treatise is mainly theoretical and is essentially based on the principle ofauthority, especially in the works of Galen, and its most striking feature is theabundance of ancient, medieval and modern sources
