摘要：Resumo O debate sobre as ações afirmativas tem despertado crescente interesse na universidade. Entretanto, para além do que se discute nos fóruns formais institucionais, há outros espaços de discussão pública que merecem análise mais detida, dentre as quais podemos situar as comunidades virtuais da internet. Baseado nesta premissa, o presente trabalho visa a discutir a questão das ações afirmativas e sua implementação na UFRGS, a partir do debate estabelecido em comunidades do Orkut organizadas em torno da temática. Os resultados sugerem que tal debate tende a elencar argumentos nem sempre presentes na discussão institucional formal, embora com provável impacto na formação da opinião pública. De mesmo modo argumenta-se pela importância de manter canais para o debate amplo de questões que, tais como as ações afirmativas, implicam alta complexidade e, presumivelmente , posições nem sempre convergentes. Palavras-chave: Ações afirmativas; Universidade; Políticas Abstract The affirmative action debate has raised increasing interest within the university. However, besides whatever is discussed in the formal institutional forums, there are other spaces of public debate deserving more detailed analysis. Among which the ones taking place in virtual communities over the internet. Based on that assumption, this paper aims at discussing the issue of affirmative actions and their implementation at UFRGS, taking into account the debate withinh Orkut communities organized around that issue. The results suggest that the debate tends to incorporate arguments not always present withinh the formnal institutional discussion, although with a likely impact upon public opinion. Likewise, we argue for the importance of keeping room for a comprehensive debate of issues that, similarly to affirmative actions, imply high complexity and, argueably, standpoints not always converging.
