摘要:Last December a fifteen-year-old boy was shot dead by a policeman in the city center of Athens. The tragic event happened at a relatively unanticipated time and place, at 9.00 on a Saturday evening in a pedestrian road full of bars and cafes. Right away and from that night on, a series of protest events and clashes with the police were triggered off all over Greece and lasted more than three weeks. The media labeled the events in various ways –rebellion, riots, episodes, uprising –, but whichever the terminology used the fact is that they soon captured the attention of a diverse audience worldwide. This article will attempt to describe and analyze the course and turn of the events, the broader conditions under which they took place or/and, which led to their unfolding, and their consequences and impact at a national and international level.
