摘要:This article narrates episodes that occurred in intermediary phases during the 103-year trajectory of the Julio de Castilhos museum (the first museum founded in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), with the objective of reflecting on the process of specialization of practices developed within institutions of memory. Beginning with the premise that the meaning of the collections is not found in the intrinsic nature of the objects but rather in the meanings adopted by social groups, the analysis assigns convergences between the ineligibilities contained in the act of collecting and the choices on which historical research are based. KEYWORDS: colletion, memory, folklore
