摘要：Resumen En este trabajo nos interesa, en primer lugar analizar cómo el intelectual uruguayo Carlos Real de Azúa (1916-1977) reflexiona sobre los relatos de viajeros sobre Uruguay, y también sobre Río de la Plata. Allí pone en consideración, entre otros temas, uno de los ejes que tendrá vital importancia en su producción crítica: las vinculaciones complejas entre “tradición-modernidad” en América Latina en general y en Uruguay en particular. En segundo lugar, queremos analizar cómo a partir de ese eje Real de Azúa critica al denominado batllismo como matriz identitaria en Uruguay. Abstract We are interested in analyzing how the intellectual Carlos Real de Azúa (1916-1977) studies the travellers’ narrations of Uruguay, and also of the Rio de la Plata. In those texts he considers, among other topics, the complex relations between “tradition-modernity” at Latin America in general and Uruguay in particular, one of the axes of his critical production. We want to analize then how he uses that axe to criticize the battlismo as the constructor of the Uruguayan identity.
