摘要:This study analyses the complex situation that the Dominican Republic experienced, resulting from the threat of Haiti, which once again invaded the Dominican Republic in 1855, as well as other more subtle interferences made by Great Britain, France, Spain and the United States. Diplomatic documentation of these two countries, along with bibliographic sources, have been used to investigate the beginning of foreign intervention in the Dominican Republic. The study of this process leads to the conclusion that the interference in Dominican politics by the First Consul of Spain in Santo Domingo helped accentuate Spanish-American rivalry.
