摘要:In this paper we see how rural populations perceive disease and death. Our analysis is based on reports of illnesses, death, and funeral rites by these populations. Although the predominant traits of rural culture are not restricted to the intense presence of religiosity and the centrality of the family, these are the most recurring features in the conceptions of death and in the resignification of daily relations after the experience of death of a family or community member. We also realize that the event of "death" is a time and a space marked by displays of solidarity, but also by the reaffirmation or even the intensification of differences, based on individual or group conflicts or where the symbolic elements are resignified in the structural arrangements of the systems of local interaction.
