摘要：This paper deals with a new methodology to interpret the Mexican territory from the perspective of spatial management, with a practical application in the state of Tamaulipas, northern Mexico. First, main geographic characteristics of the state are exposed. Next, the methodological steps to determine levels of economic development and changes in sectorial orientation are pointed out and applied. Finally, municipalities' main geographic-economic performances are highlighted. The positive image of Tamaulipas in Mexico rests, to its interior, in a reduced number of municipalities.
